Information

The Department of Planning and Environment has advised that the proposed Karuah South Quarry is currently on public exhibition. To see the EIS and past submissions, go to https://www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/major-projects/projects/karuah-south-quarry. Submissions close on 6 November, 2023. The Department of Planning and Environment is the determining authority under delegation by the Minister. Enquiries should be directed to James McDonough on 0295856313.

There are currently two quarries on the site between the Branch Lane and the Pacific Highway plus two proposed quarries. They are:

  • Karuah Quarry: This is the old quarry that has been there a long time and is nearly worked out.
  • Karuah East Quarry: This quarry is to the east of the old quarry and is currently worked.
  • Proposed Karuah South Quarry: This quarry is located between the old Karuah Quarry and the Pacific Highway.
  • Proposed Karuah Red Quarry: This quarry is west of the old Karuah Quarry and the closest one to Branch Lane. It is still in the early stages of study and there was an information evening last March at the Karuah RSL.

Karuah East Quarry has a Community Consultative Committee and I am the NACCAi representative on the committee. We meet twice a year. The proposed Karuah South Quarry is on a separate block of land and is owned by a different company.
